LOBOSONG is an auditioned choir that meets daily at 7:00am before the school day begins. Students are given the opportunity to excel musically and develop as a team in an inventive, professional, and collaborative environment.  Singers learn to read, write, rehearse and perform different styles and genres of music.  Choir members collectively create choreography to enhance each song.  LOBOSONG performs in the community several times a year. 

Vocal Ensemble is a choir that is available to all students and promotes the development of the untrained singer.  Students learn to read, write, rehearse, and perform different styles and genres of music in a safe, supportive and artistic environment.  Members of Vocal Ensemble perform 3-4 times a year for the general public.  

music1.jpgBeginning Guitar is a class designed to give a basic introduction to the guitar. Students will learn how to play chords, read guitar tab and notation and explore several different styles and genres of music. Guitar students must have a guitar that they bring to class everyday – there are guitars available for checkout. Students will receive music handouts throughout the year.

Concert Band is an instrumental music ensemble that works on pep band, marching band and concert music during the school year.  Students are expected to have some instrumental music experience prior to enrolling in the class – exceptions based on instructor approval. Students learn to read, write, rehearse, and perform different styles and genres of music in a safe, supportive and artistic environment.  Concert Band performs in the community several times throughout the school year. 

Drumline is an auditioned instrumental music ensemble that works on percussion, pep band, marching band and concert music during the school year.  Students are expected to have some instrumental music experience prior to enrolling in the class.  Students learn to read, write, rehearse, and perform different styles and genres of music in a safe, supportive and artistic environment.  Drumline members are expected to perform many times during the school year at school and in the community. 

Jazz Band is an auditioned instrumental music ensemble that works on jazz, pop, funk and rock and roll music during the school year.  Students are expected to have some instrumental music experience prior to enrolling in the class and may only enroll with instructor approval.  Students learn to read, write, rehearse, improvise and perform different styles and genres of music in a safe, supportive and artistic environment.   Jazz Band members are expected to perform many times during the school year at school and in the community.

Kyle Thompson “Papa T” (Kyle) is now in his ninth year as music director at EAHS. He oversees all music ensembles at Elsie Allen including two choirs, the Concert Band, the Drumline, the Jazz Band, and a Guitar Class. In 2010, Kyle was given the honor of being the Elsie Allen High School Educator of the Year. He was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award in 2009 and 2013.

Besides teaching at EAHS, Kyle is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and was the choir president for the Northern California Band Directors Association for five years.
