La Promesa

In 2014-2015, in collaboration with Sonoma State University, Elsie Allen High School began offering a course for 11th and 12th grade students who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching and education called La Promesa – Future S.T.E.M. Educators.  This Future S.T.E.M. Educators class was designed by Sonoma State University’s School of Education to help prepare interested high school students to train and work as future teachers.  Future Educator students gain a comprehensive overview of and experience with teaching and learning practices, managing safe and organized classrooms, child and adolescent development, the history of schools in the United States, and social and cultural influences in education.  Future Educator students also spend 30 or more hours observing and assisting in an assigned neighborhood, public school elementary or middle school classroom.  Students who earn a C or better in this course will earn 3.0 units from Sonoma State University that are transferable to any California State University.
